Well one thing I have learned that I would like to share is that making a forum and it becoming successful and turned into an active community is patience. I remember 2 years ago I showed my brother how to make a forum and he made one about this specific type of fish.
At the begining there was no members and really no posts but the forum looked good and he kept asking me why are no people joining! I told him patience is the secret with forums because a forum can only grow and never get less. well 2 years later and his forum is now very active with loads of members and posts and he's very happy with it.
I think patience is a must for forums especially in the begining.

Yeah, when you are working in it, advertising, and really caring and pendant of it, patience is very important. If you don-t give up, it will eventually pick up. It won't be all of sudden, but it will grow just like you said.

Patience is key to managing a forum. I know there have been times where I was just exasperated with the lack of activity that I just wanted to close my forum down. But I stuck with it and in time the activity will pick up.

One thing a forum will always do is grow, every post will count every member will count every topic will count all towards a growing community and that's what forum are all about but like I said patient is very much needed in the begining!

I agree with all the above. Patience has a big part in making a forum a success, without it I can guarantee your site will not last 9 out of 10 times. Overnight success is not reasonable and even 2 month success is not what I expect.
I have heard most business owners state that to see a real turn around in a business it will take around 2 years, I expect close to the same with a forum / website.

Patience is something I wish I have more of when it comes to running forums. I want to run a successful forum, and I've come out with Marie 1988, but it seems like every time I try a forum, I always run out of patience. But I'm not letting that happen this time, as I really need all the patience I can muster to keep this forum up and running.
