As an admin on a forum, do you think it's important that the admin should know basic coding? What are your thoughts?

If they are using a free host then they shouldn't really need to learn coding. That's my views though.

The more you know the better you are at answering questions. I've been able to find solutions to certain Qbasic and Perl problems from forums like these (self-teachers) than a premium forum with professionals.

While I think it would be useful for an administrator to know coding, I also know learning it isn't always the easiest thing in the world. I tried but couldn't understand a word of the stuff I was reading.

I feel it would defiantly be useful, I personally know coding and would not know what to do if I didn't . It has helped me a great deal in making a success out of my sites.

I used to know HTML but I havent used that in a long time. I have a co-admin who knows abit about coding. Whilst I don't think it is estential for admins to know how to code, it is handy. I remember when I was on Invisionfree, coding was fairly simple and I learnt it by trial and error (I had a test board) Now I wouldn't know where to start, And I would be stuck if it wasn't for my Co-Admin.

Yeah, i think it is important to know at least the basic. So he can custom the forum a little like adding his copyright into the forum footer..

Every administrator should have enough coding knowledge at least to fix common forum problems. Administrators also need to know the forum software they use.

If they want to edit their forum with coding, then yes. If not then why should they?

But think about, what if they experience an issue? How will they fix it? They would have to rely on others. It's best for them to be able to rely on yourself when it comes to coding.
